Hunts help heroes

A couple of years ago many hunts throughout the UK supported an initiative run by the MFHA to raise funds for Help for Heroes. We presented them with a cheque at the Cheltenham Countryside Race Day and I can assure you, meeting two young soldiers who had lost five limbs between them was a very salutatory and humbling experience.

I am writing to all Hunts, to ask you to really put your backs behind this latest venture by Horses Help Heroes, (in support of Help for Heroes) to drive a replica First World War Horse Drawn Ambulance from Lands End to John o` Groats day and night, a distance of nearly 1000 miles in hopefully around 10 days.  It will be manned in rotation by twelve soldiers, all amputees and the route is outlined on the attached pamphlet.  The money raised by Horses Help Heroes will also be distributed to Combat Stress, the Army Benevolent Fund and BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association).

I ask therefore, if all Hunts could activate a Leader/Hunt Official or ex (or serving) serviceman or woman to get together a committee to raise funds for our wounded,  of whom there are an increasing number, many of whom who will need support for the rest of their lives.  Funds can be raised in a myriad of ways – collections at meets, parties, rides, pub skittles, darts etc and of course private donations, preferably Gift Aided if possible.  This appeal will run until 31st January 2012.

I would also ask if hunts would consider enclosing a copy of the Hoses Help Heroes pamphlet in any Hunt or Supporters Club mailing.  These leaflets can be obtained from Vicki Meakin at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I urge you to look at the comprehensive Horses Help Heroes website

All horse persuasions are being asked to get involved with this fantastic challenge and I do hope that you will be able to assist in ensuring that Hunting plays its part.

Many thanks in anticipation of a great result.
