About this Hunt

The Countrywhich lies between Filey and Whitby, is a strip 28 miles in length and from four to 12 miles wide. Best centres: Scarborough, which also commands meets of the Derwent and the Middleton, and whitby. The Goathland adjoins to the north.

Hunt History

The Hunt dates from a very early period but no records have been kept; tradition the hunt received a charter from King John when he landed on the coast in the 13th century. From 1940 to 1944 the hounds were trencher fed  , and divided into to two packs, the north end of the country being hunted by E.G. Readman, and the south end by T. Knaggs.
