Hounds

The Great Yorkshire show at Harrogate had larger than usual entries, with 27 packs showing, the Fife coming all the way from Scotland and the North Down from Ireland, however it was the Southern packs which dominated the major classes.

The first main show held at Ardingly in Sussex for the South of England Hound show. President of the show, Nicholas Soames, makes all welcome and this year there were a far greater number of packs showing with better quality. The crowd were so delighted when a local pack deservedly won the Bitch Championship and it was a great win for East Kent Sudden 03. Seventeen packs had entered and the Doghound judges were Ian Mckie MFH (College Valley/Northumberland) and Jacky Thomas MFH (Curre and Llangibby). The Crawley & Horsham won the local class with Garston 06 beating East Kent Saltwood 04 with Chiddingfold, Leconfield & Cowdray Combat 06 3^rd and Old Surrey Burstow & West Kent Football in reserve.

The Doghounds were judged by Vyvyan Eames, Chairman of the West of England Hound show, with Charles Frampton MFH (The Portman). The Duke of Beaufort won both Championships, and it was good to see Middleton in the shake up in most classes and the hound I noted was their very attractive stallion hound Builder 04.
